“I feel like what we have right now is just a giant piece of shit. It's just terrible and we should be humiliated that we offer this to the public.”- Stewart Butterfield
Stewart Butterfield built two video games that failed commercially — the second one, Glitch, had to be shut down with $9 million still in the bank. The internal communication tool his team had been building on the side became Slack. In 2014, the year Slack launched, Butterfield told MIT Technology Review it was 'a giant piece of shit.' The team printed those words on 40 sheets of paper and pasted them on the office wall as a motivational battle cry. Slack was sold to Salesforce for $27.7 billion.
