Lenny surveyed founders of 40+ iconic startups — Notion, Figma, Linear, Ramp, Segment — about how they hired their first employees. The overwhelming pattern: personal networks were the #1 channel, the best people were never actively looking, and Linear hired a dedicated recruiter at 15 people because 'the best and most sought-after people are often hard and slow to hire.'
